Workplace bullying and harassment can have a significant impact on a person’s mental health, wellbeing and capacity to participate in work. Supporting recovery requires a considered approach that recognises the individual’s experience while also understanding the broader workplace context.

Strive’s Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Chris Foley, recently joined a multidisciplinary panel for the Mental Health Professionals’ Network (MHPN) webinar, When work causes harm: Supporting recovery and work participation after bullying and harassment.
Held on 21 October 2026, the webinar brought together perspectives from occupational rehabilitation, psychology, organisational development and general practice. The discussion explored the health impacts of workplace bullying and harassment, trauma-informed approaches to supporting people who have experienced workplace harm, and practical strategies for supporting safe and sustainable participation in work.
Drawing on more than 40 years of experience across mental health, workplace rehabilitation, and organisational development, Chris contributed a workplace rehabilitation perspective to the discussion. He highlighted the importance of understanding the broader context surrounding a person’s experience, including workplace relationships, communication, organisational change and leadership, and the role these factors can play in an individuals experience of workplace, as well as psychological health and recovery.
A strong theme throughout the session was the importance of taking a balanced, person-centred and trauma-informed approach. This includes listening carefully to the individual’s experience, understanding relevant psychosocial hazards and, where appropriate, working collaboratively across the individual, healthcare providers and workplace to support recovery and a safe return to meaningful work.
The webinar attracted 2,375 registrations and more than 1,000 live attendees, reflecting the importance of this topic for professionals supporting people experiencing psychological injury and workplace challenges.
