At Strive, we’re fortunate to have passionate professionals who bring both clinical expertise and genuine care to every client interaction, and Thandeka is no exception. As a Physiotherapist and Rehabilitation Consultant based in our Far North Queensland team, Thandeka combines strong clinical reasoning with a thoughtful, people-centred approach that helps clients feel heard, supported and empowered throughout their rehabilitation journey.
Drawn to Strive because of its values-driven culture, Thandeka has embraced the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally since joining the team. Living and working in the unique environment of Far North Queensland has shaped her approach to rehabilitation, encouraging flexibility, cultural awareness and a deep appreciation for the diverse communities she supports.
Known for her intentional work style and calm, solutions-focused mindset, Thandeka enjoys helping people overcome barriers, regain confidence and achieve meaningful outcomes. Whether she’s navigating complex client needs, coordinating support services or simply taking the time to build trust, her focus remains the same: delivering quality support that genuinely makes a difference.
We recently sat down with Thandeka to learn more about her journey into occupational rehabilitation, life in FNQ, and the mindfulness walks that help her unwind after a busy day.
“Helping clients feel heard, understood and supported is at the heart of everything I do.”
What drew you to your role at Strive of Rehabilitation Consultant, and what are you enjoying most about your role?
I was drawn to Strive Occupational Rehabilitation because the organisation’s values genuinely align with my own, both in life and in the workplace. Their commitment to respect, integrity, and employee wellbeing stood out to me and made the role feel purposeful from the start. Since joining, I’ve grown significantly: I’ve developed a deeper respect for people, gained insight into different working styles, and built a stronger understanding of myself and how I show up professionally.
Working in Far North Queensland offers a unique environment, how does living and working in FNQ influence the way you support your clients?
Living and working in Far North Queensland shapes the way I support clients because the region itself demands a more flexible, culturally aware, and community‑centred approach. FNQ has a diverse population, unique environmental challenges, and a strong sense of local identity, so I’ve learned to adapt my communication, pace, and planning to suit the realities of the area. Most importantly, being part of the FNQ community helps me understand people’s lifestyles, values, and daily barriers more authentically, which allows me to deliver support that feels practical, respectful, and genuinely aligned with how they live.
What do you enjoy most about being a Rehabilitation Consultant in occupational rehabilitation, and where do you see yourself making the biggest impact?
I enjoy being a Rehabilitation Consultant because the work is meaningful, every interaction has the potential to improve someone’s daily functioning, confidence, and overall wellbeing. I value the blend of structured case management, clinical reasoning, and human connection, and I enjoy being able to advocate for clients while coordinating support that fits their lives. Where I see myself making the biggest impact is in the quality of my communication and the way I build trust: helping clients feel heard, understood, and supported, and ensuring that the services they receive are purposeful, timely, and aligned with their goals.
No two days are ever the same, what’s something you’ve learned on the job that’s helped you stay adaptable and resilient in your work?
I’ve learned that adaptability and resilience come from being able to navigate change with intention rather than panic. In occupational rehab, no two days look the same, client needs shift, providers’ availability changes, and unexpected barriers pop up without warning. One of the most valuable lessons has been learning to slow down, reassess the situation, and respond with clarity instead of reacting impulsively. Staying organised, communicating proactively, and keeping a solutions‑focused mindset has helped me remain steady even when the day takes a completely different direction. It’s taught me to embrace flexibility, trust my professional judgement, and stay grounded in the bigger purpose of the work.
If you had to describe your work style using one word, what would it be — and why?
I’d describe my work style as intentional because I approach every task, client interaction, and decision with purpose and clarity. I’m deliberate in how I communicate, how I plan, and how I respond to challenges, which helps me stay organised, calm, and focused even in a fast‑moving environment. Being intentional means I’m always thinking about the bigger picture, the client’s goals, the quality of the support I’m providing, and the impact of each step in the rehabilitation process.
Just for fun — what’s one thing that helps you instantly switch off after work, FNQ‑style?
After work, I love taking my mindfulness walks, it’s the one thing that instantly helps me switch off . There’s something grounding about stepping outside, feeling the warm tropical air, and letting the natural pace of the region slow everything down. Those quiet moments give me space to breathe, reset, and leave the workday behind so I can be fully present again.
