Brisbane Spotlight
Meet Josie, one of our wonderful Exercise Physiologists in Brisbane, as she sheds light on her journey of working in occupational rehabilitation and the power of movement.

What motivated you to become an EP?
“I was inspired to become an exercise physiologist because of my own positive experiences with being active and participating in various sports. I loved how movement made me feel—not just physically stronger, but also mentally clearer and more balanced. That experience made me want to help others feel the same way. The idea of supporting people to move better, feel more confident, and take control of their health really resonated with me. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of someone’s journey, helping them reach their goals and improve their overall wellbeing.”

What motivated you to practice in Occ Rehab?
“I was drawn to occupational rehab because it blends physical/psychological recovery with real-life outcomes. It’s not just about getting someone stronger—it’s about helping them return to work, regain their confidence, and feel independent again. That practical, goal-driven side of the role really appealed to me. But what I’ve come to really appreciate is how much you grow in people skills too. You’re constantly communicating with clients, listening to their stories, understanding their challenges, and working with them to find realistic solutions. It’s taught me how to build rapport, adapt how I communicate depending on the person, and really support people not just physically, but emotionally as well. It’s such a rewarding space to work in because you’re making a genuine impact on someone’s day-to-day life.”

What motivates you to move, personally?
“For me, movement has always been a way to reset—physically and mentally. It clears my head, boosts my mood, and gives me a sense of structure when everything else feels chaotic. I’m someone who feels the difference when I don’t move regularly. Whether it’s going for a walk, training at the gym, or just stretching, it helps me feel more in control, more grounded, and more ‘me.’ I also love the sense of progress—getting a bit stronger, moving a bit better—it’s a reminder that I’m showing up for myself.”

What motivates you every day to get your clients moving?
“As an EP I love watching clients realise they’re capable of more than they thought. It’s not just about the physical side of things, but also helping them shift their mindset—especially when they start to feel empowered and less reliant on medication or others for support. Each session is a chance to create a plan that’s personalised to their needs, and knowing that I’m giving them the tools to continue moving forward on their own, while taking control of their health. It’s that mix of connecting with people, learning about the body, and seeing real progress that drives me to keep my clients moving.”
