Can you share your journey from a Senior Rehabilitation Consultant to a Principal Consultant? What motivated you to take this path?
Transitioning from Senior to Principal Consultant wasn’t just a title change for me — it was a mindset shift. As a Senior Consultant, I focused on delivering outcomes and building expertise. As a Principal Consultant, I now lead with strategy, continue to mentor others, and help shape the future of our services at Strive. My ongoing committed focus is on driving and delivering quality service and influencing beyond my own individual case load.
What key skills or experiences helped you progress to a leadership role?
I would say primarily time, experience and a lot of hard work has led me to a position of leadership. I have been working in the Occupational Rehab Industry for 10+ years now and through this time had some exceptional leaders to help with my growth (professional and personal) as well as being exposed to different services and opportunities during this time. I was also provided an opportunity to step into a Team Lead role for a period which provided me with a whole lot of new skills, particularly in people management.
What innovations or trends in occupational therapy and rehabilitation excite you the most right now?
Right now, we are in a time where we need connection more than ever, in particular at work. As Occupational Therapists / Rehab Consultants we are in a unique position where we can support those most in need, both workplaces and individual employees and most industries are open for ‘what could be’ to achieve this, putting us in the perfect position to be creative when delivering an optimal individualised service.
For aspiring professionals, what advice would you give on navigating career growth within occupational rehabilitation?
In Occupational Rehabilitation consistency is your superpower. You will become successful by repeating the same actions over and over again. As the actions become habits, continue to build on your tools and knowledge. Don’t dismiss the importance of the one percenters.
What is one strategy that you suggest we could implement today to support our own self care?
Make time to do something that you love as a non-negotiable, whether it is exercise, connecting with friends or having a solo coffee with a good book. There will never be enough time, you need to be intentional when prioritizing your own needs.
And lastly, what is a fun fact about you that we might not know?
I have a twin sister. And no, we are not identical.
